    Hey Lucy,
I’ve only just discovered you on youtube and I’m really thrilled to have found you!
I have bought a few corsets online and received the first two this morning so I’m very excited to try them out. I went on youtube to find out how to lace myself in, and there you were!
So, the purpose of this message is to say thanks for doing what you do!! Keep up the great work and thanks again.

    • bishonenrancher February 1, 2012 at 5:18 pm #

Hi Jac, thank you so much for your kind words! It’s wonderful people like you (who appreciate the work I put in) that inspire me to keep doing what I do. :) Best wishes!

Honey I know how you feel but your best to igrone them, as if it did not exist! You must act as he does not even matter, and when they come down with stupid comments about one of your friends intelligent and do the same! I bet he did not even prttier then act as if its normal, if they say something stupid, and laughing like I do not think its cool to talk to your self never cry in front of themand natural act ! Tell your friends what happened, so that they return home! when you see it in the hall and smile as they laugh. it’s just funny how people are so jelous of others. its going to be fine tp stop crying and show women in tears souldnt people that do not cost a visit! they are stupid and worthless life to live, laugh, and then your face !!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi!
I’ve watched your videos for a looong time. (They is awesomes…) I found you because I am interested in making my own corset. I have one question though. Can one wear an over-bust corset if they aren’t “well- endowed”? I saw at a fabric store that they sold sew in bras, or is that a completely asinine idea to have? If you shouldn’t wear a over-bust, what would be good under an under-bust? My idea is to have to over bust corset in mulberry, with a ankle, or floor length simple black skirt/dress. I don’t need the corset to take inches of my waistline, I simply love the style. Any advice?
P.S. I used to think my hip length hair was long. Then I saw you. You’re gorgeous!

    • bishonenrancher March 1, 2012 at 9:58 pm #

Hi Kitma! I’m so glad you like my videos. :) Yes, you can absolutely wear an overbust corset even if you’re small-busted. Actually an overbust will often make a small bust look bigger because of the extra support. Don’t buy the sew-in bra quite yet; wait until after you get your corset and see if you need the extra oomph. You may be able to get away with nothing, or can use some sew-in or velcro bust pads instead of full bra cups. :) Thank you very much for your kind comment!

    Hi, Lucy!
I’ve been watching your vids since just after you started making them. The information you provide, the reviews, etc., have proved very helpful for me. When I’m approached by others asking for corsetry information, your youtube channel is the first place I send them.

Thank you for all your hard work. I want you to know your efforts are appreciated.

    Blessed be.
    Moon

      Hi Moon!
You just put the biggest smile on my face! Thank you so much for supporting me through the whole time I’ve been on here. It’s because of wonderful people like you that I’m still inspired to make more videos and contribute as much as I can. Hugs and blessings to you!

  5. Prima March 10, 2012 at 6:12 am #

    Hi Lucy,

I found out about you by chance, on youtube. I think you’re a really interesting and inspiring renaissance woman :) I am getting interested in corsets, but have never tried one. I measured my waist today, it’s 23.5 inches without sucking in. Are you meant to measure when you’ve inhaled, to get the smallest number you can- I wasn’t sure? Also, what size corset would you recommend for beginning? I don’t think I want to go to extremes, just have a more flattering silhouette for special occasions. Thanks and keep up the amazing work :)

    • bishonenrancher March 10, 2012 at 1:05 pm #

Hi Prima, thank you so much for your compliments! ^_^ If you have a 23.5″ waist and want a bit of definition in your waistline then I would recommend getting a 20″ corset (for a restriction of a max of 3.5″). You measured it corrrectly; without sucking in! Because you wouldn’t want to be “sucking in” the entire time you’re wearing a corset – that would become exhausting pretty quickly. :p A corset that sits below the breasts is called an “underbust” corset. :)

  6. Amy March 27, 2012 at 12:02 pm #

Hi there! I’d like to ask you if you’ve received any negativity wearing your corsets over clothes.

    • bishonenrancher March 27, 2012 at 1:34 pm #

Yes, although mostly online. People are more polite when they see me in person, and are more curious about how it feels. People online feel that thye have a right to ridicule and insult simply because they can. One thing to note however is I wear my corsets under my clothing most of the time; I only tend to wear my corsets outside my clothes in public during special occasions and nights out.

  7. Sarah June 23, 2012 at 12:42 am #

    Hey Lucy!
Question for you. In your latest video, for the Audrey corset i believe, you mentioned certain corsets help with lower abdomen pooch. I am not so much worried about the hourglass figure as I am a flat tummy look. What do you recommend corset wise? Thank you for your time, and love your work! xoxo

    • bishonenrancher June 24, 2012 at 12:37 pm #

Hi Sarah, if you’re looking for a “modern” or “natural” silhouette (not a crazy hourglass) and want some lower tummy control, I’d recommend a longline corset (these go down over the hips). Take a look at my review of the Leatherotics 1817 “hipster” corset. It has a very flat front and will give good control over your abdomen. :) Cheers!

  8. Aisha June 29, 2012 at 12:32 pm #

    Hi Lucy!
I am very new to corsets, but I would like to get a training corset to define my waist. I am a C/D/DD cup depending on where I purchase my bra from. Could you please give me some pointers and a place to start from?
    Thank you!

    Aisha

    • bishonenrancher June 29, 2012 at 5:19 pm #

      Hi Aisha!
For a training corset I’d definitely recommend starting with an underbust corset first, and wearing that with a separate bra – it will save you the headache of getting sized for an overbust, plus underbusts are easier to breathe in and easier to somewhat move around in. I haven’t tried many training corsets but a relatively affordable one is made by Heavenly Corsets; you can choose between an hourglass shape or a wasp-waist shape too. :)

  9. sometallchickAileen July 2, 2012 at 5:04 am #

Hi Lucy, I recently found this and didn’t even realize this kind of thing was done, except for Jung, and that’s nowhere I would like to go. :) Anyhow, thank you for all your hard work and time! Your videos are so informative, interesting and yet, simple. Great job!

Here is my question – I have post baby weight to lose, and am working on it…. once I lose a bit more, I would like to try this, but because my kids came back to back, and the doctor who delivered my son was in a hurry, I have a prolapsed bladder which I have been able to strengthen with exercise considerably. Restrictive undies – think Spanx help as well.
I understand some of the longline (I believe that’s what they are called – correct me if i am wrong) corsets may assist in holding me in. A doctor I went to see recommended a procedure, which I just saw on TV is causing all sorts of problems – not like I am the surgery type, but it does concern me, as with age, incontinence is not unheard of.

Anyhow, wearing underwear which hold me in makes a huge difference, and I feel so much more comfortable.Plus my posture (being tall) is not the best. Enter the corset – for the muscles which help to serve the bladder and surrounding muscles, can I use a Spanx-type bottom with a corset and would a corset which goes to the hips, especially with a front that dips a little to hold in the lower stomach muscles even be doable? I have a pooch, which i have never had before. Should I use 2 separate items, and of course because something longer would be more expensive, that may be the way to go at least part of the time. I am looking to get the benefit of both waist-cinching, though not extreme – maybe 5 or 6 inches tops as well as helping my muscles to hold up my bladder in my old age. Haha

I look forward to your knowledgeable response. Blessings!

    • bishonenrancher July 2, 2012 at 11:25 am #

Hi! Absolutely you can wear a longline corset with control-top underwear for a “double whammy” to keep your pooch in! However, if you buy from a corset website, be sure that they have a good return policy since I’m not 100% sure that a corset will make you more comfortable or less. Corsets put most restriction on the waistline which can sometimes put a downward pressure on the lower abdomen – some women experience more pressure on their bladder, while other women find less. It depends on the body, on the corset and how tight it’s being worn (unfortunately I’m not good with the specifics of this, otherwise I’d recommend a corset for you!) but the only way for you to really know if a corset will affect your prolapse positively or negatively is to try one for yourself. I hope this helps and wasn’t totally confusing!

  10. Marissa LeJeune (@Missa_Manson) July 8, 2012 at 11:18 pm #

    Hi!
I’ve had an interest in corsets since I was young enough to be in second grade and have been in the closet about it since. I never dared say a single word relating to corsets till last summer (2011) around my family for they “fear” corsets. I am young still and my parents still don’t support corseting but I have gained a knoweldge that I couldn’t have gained from anywhere else besides my own experience, which is yet to be gained. I have to thank you for informing me on everything I know about corsets. When I begin corseting I will now know where to begin and where to look for help!

  11. Vella July 9, 2012 at 10:24 pm #

hello ;) I’ve never worn a real corset before, and am hoping to go down a few inches on my waist. I don’t want to ”wait-train” very far though. I’m curious as to what you or whoever else is on here who is more experiences in corsetting would think of this being my first corset http://www.corset-story.com/waist-training-underbust-corset-in-black-taffeta-wt-001-azx-6887.html is the material/boning strong enough in your opinion?? I don’t know if the website tellls you enough, but from that information, will it be strong enough to do what i’m asking, rather than a costume corset?? I’m about 5 foot 8 which is why i choose the ”longline” corset. I’m probably going to wear it with a corset liner with it too if that makes any difference. Thank you for your time and your input, and your awesomeness. <3 oh and by the way, your videos are amazing. :)

    • bishonenrancher July 9, 2012 at 10:34 pm #

Hi Vella! Thanks so much for your compliments. :D Personally I wouldn’t go with that particular corset – compared to the waist, it’s only 4 inches bigger in the ribcage and 6 inches bigger in the hips, so unless you’re VERY tubular in shape, it may end up crushing your ribs/ hips without much reduction in the waist. I’ve tried one of them in the past and the fabric indeed felt very sturdy but the shape of all their underbust corsets sort of made me feel like I was dying, lol. Another site that has very low prices but also has a better silhouette is Leatherotics. Especially if you check out their ebay page – their 1214 corset, I’ve discovered quite recently, is very comfortable. :) If you go through their main site it’s a bit pricier but they can also add extra length in the torso for you if your height is a concern. I hope this helps! Thanks again for your comment! :D

      • Vella July 9, 2012 at 11:23 pm #

Thank you so much for the reply and suggestions. :) I’m really glad that this website has both leather and silk options because I try to avoid leather, and it’s a lot cheaper than what I was going for. I will keep looking for something on here and keep you suggestions in mind. Thank you so much :)

    hey Lucy,
I saw your videos and i just loved it so much… you are actually inspiring me to try out waist training…because ever since high school i suffered from low self-esteem regarding my body image, i am not over weight but i do have chubby stomach and flab… i do work out and diet and loosing weight but i still don’t have that nice curvy figure and that flat stomach. i have a lot of nice dresses that i wanna wear but it doesnt look good becasue of my stomach flab. so i really want to try out waist training.. so my question is for a beginner like me what kind of corset do you recommend .. my waist size is 30 inch my weight is 120 pound and my height is 5 feet 1 inch…lol yes im very short… i really want to get that curvy and flatten stomach and also lose weight before next year summer cause im getting married and i really wanna look good for my husband and my wedding :D … thank you so much for making those videos i learned so much.. keep up the good work :D

HI! Been following your posts for ages now, but recently when i receive notification of a new post, when i click the link it always goes to a ‘Sorry, no posts matched your criteria.’ page not found. I then go to the link in this post and there it is. Just thought i’d let you know!

Hi Kristen! Thanks for letting me know, that’s definitely odd! I will look into it.

  14. Rayne September 23, 2012 at 12:40 pm #

Hello Mrs Lucy, May I have some advice? I’m a slightly heavy set female and I would love to try corsetting, but because of the face that I am heavy set I don’t know if it would do more damage than it would do good. Any ideas?

    • bishonenrancher September 23, 2012 at 10:39 pm #

Hi Rayne, I have made a video/ article on full-figured corseters – this might answer some of your questions. Generally if you’re in good health then you should be able to corset with little risk, but it’s best if you go to the doctor and make sure you don’t have any pre-existing conditions before you start. Here’s the link: http://lucycorsetry.com/2012/01/13/tips-for-full-figured-corseters/

Hi ! I love your videos, and it has provided me with so much information and knowledge about corseting……and because I am a man, it is harder to find accepting information for myself, and your videos and website is just so useful. I now have a beautifully made satin, black, custom made boned corset that I wear daily, and looking forward to wearing it every morning. It’s one of those special things that one finds in life and corsetting is one of those. Thank you for doing so many of us such a great service. By the way, you look fabulous !

Hi W! Thanks so much for your comment. :) I’m glad my site has been so helpful for you, and grateful for such kind followers. :)

  16. Annet September 25, 2012 at 10:44 am #

    Hello Lucy :)

Firstly: thanks for being such a great corset reviewer!
You’re a big help for anyone looking for a nice corset. Great that you review different price ranges and I really admire your sewing skills. Wish I could afford something custom made!

Secondly, I have a question; I’m thinking of buying the Leatherotics skirted corset you reviewed. Could you perhaps advice me on sizing? In particular: if you know if having it made to measure would pay off – I don’t need extra length but would ask them to increase the hipspring and bust spring (that’s not a word I guess ;) But you get what I mean, the curviness, a more hourglassy silhouette..

    Thanks a lot,

    -Annet

    • bishonenrancher September 25, 2012 at 11:01 am #

Hi Annet! Most definitely custom fit is the way to go! Leatherotics takes fewer measurements than, say, individual designers but it still makes a huge difference in fit, I’ve found. Cheers!

  17. Izoi October 9, 2012 at 7:47 pm #

    Hi Lucy,
I’ve been following you and your YouTube videos off an on for about a year. I love the fact that you address the issue of corseting from a scientific standpoint. But, I’ve got a question that I’m hoping you could give me an answer or point me in the right direction.
As a nursing major I’ve taken two semesters of Anatomy & Physiology so far; and this semester was the first time we even talked about floating ribs or even the ribs being broken by corsets (and the removal of such for a smaller waist). Is this possible? My instructor seems to claim that a 13 inch ideal for women’s waists would do such, therefore leaving the woman unable to ever remove the corset due to extreme discomfort without. I’m wanting to call B.S. on her.
What’s your opinion on the matter?

    • bishonenrancher October 9, 2012 at 10:44 pm #

Hi Izoi, honestly I don’t know where your instructor has gotten their information, but they’re just perpetuating myths and urban legends, which is unfortunate. Firstly, the 13 inch waist was never the ideal – you can see in plenty of museums around the world that most of the corsets were somewhere between 21″ – 35″, with the average corset size being around 23″ – 25″. One study in the late 1800′s showed that the average waist reduction was only 2.5 inches. Only one person has ever been recorded to have a 13-inch waist, and that’s Ethyl Granger. Also, stories of “broken bones” in corsets were stories of the CORSET’S bones snapping (they were made of baleen/whalebone), but it descended into a game of broken telephone where people started saying “human bones” because the word “bone” was too ambiguous. Lastly, there is no written evidence to support that rib removal had been done for cosmetic purposes, ever. Not in the past, not in the present. Are ribs used sometimes for reconstruction of the face and skull today? Sure. But most doctors won’t touch rib removal as a direct cosmetic procedure, because of the proximity to the lungs and risk of puncture. You can read more about that in this article: http://lucycorsetry.com/2012/09/19/history-myths-blog-articles-of-interest/
      I hope this helps.

  19. Anisa Gamal November 6, 2012 at 3:19 pm #

Hi Lucy, my name is Anisa. I live in Portland, Oregon. I have seen a few of your videos, and like you, I am a health, music and small waistline nerd. I am so charmed by your teaching skills. I’m guessing you might be a Virgo. You are so fresh and unabashed to be able to teach people about such things as toilet usage with corseting. I am a nutrition expert and call myself a Food Coach. I think about microbiology in my everyday work and advising of people, and find them so squeamish to talk of their own digestive process – you do it so WELL ! You are like me in that arena. The world needs more people like us!

I began wearing corsets in the early part of the 90s decade. I began cinching my belts when I was 10 or 11 years old. I always thought women looked good with small waistlines. I began wearing and designing fetish clothing in 1981. I have three corsets made by Big Ruth in the 90s and then one from Dark Garden.

I’m a student of cultures and languages and I wonder if you are of Arabic descent. I also wonder what part of America you live in and wonder how your early life went so that you developed your fine art of corseting. Is there a more complete bio of you? You are so unusual, charming, intelligent and most of all, informed about health, that for me, these qualities trump your beauty and poise. I also play music (on guitar) and teach Afro Latin percussion and Arabic dance. I recognize your unique essence and would like to help you in any small way with your goals in life because you are so much like me! (I am probably 20 years older than you.) So let me know and at least lets be beauty-nerd friends! I have insight into naturopathy and have a 35 year old lady friend who is just entering her Masters program in nutrition at Bastyr University outside of Seattle. I visited the campus this year! Please be in touch!

  20. Rachel November 11, 2012 at 11:04 pm #

    Hello Lucy!

I recently got a brand new sewing machine, and I thought I would try my hand at making corsets. My old machine couldn’t make a straight line to save someones life. I didn’t dare try it. I have a question about grommets. I watched your video about them and you have more than convinced me that grommets and not eyelets are the way to go. (Also in my opinion eyelets look unfinished and little messy.) Anyway, I did what you suggested and looked at my local fabric stores, sewing stores, craft stores, and then even to a sewing machine and notions store. I could not find a giant box of grommets like the one on your video. I am not willing to buy them in packages of 8 and pay 5 dollars just for that. I was bulk! I want it to come with a little grommet setter so I don’t crush my fingers with the hammer.

What is the brand name, or manufacturer name of those grommets?

Thank you, hope to see more videos and blog posts soon!

    Rachel

    • bishonenrancher November 12, 2012 at 1:00 pm #

Hi Rachel! The ones I show in the video are Prym brand, you can find them in bulk (packs of 500 or 1000) from Vena Cava Design (they are advertised as “2-part eyelets” or “eyelet and washer” but it’s the same as grommets, and they don’t have the splits along the back. They’re a little more expensive than I found mine for, although still worth it if you plan to make at least 10 corsets. The 5mm ones are most popular. Each of those kits come with its own little setter but you should still be careful about squishing your fingers.

      • prettyface November 26, 2012 at 9:06 pm #

Hi, I think ur great!! and beautiful hair!! I recently got a tummy tuck and would love to start waist training to reduce the size of my waist. my measurements are 40-35-44 and weigh 150 lbs. Im 5’3 and really dont have the funds to buy a very expensive corset. the corsets offered at corset story are steel boned and I found some that are very inexpensive such as http://www.corset-story.com/waist-training-corset-in-blue-brocade-wt-045-azy.htmlhttp://www.corset-story.com/lacing-corset.html , Do u think its worth it. and thank u so much for ur time

      • bishonenrancher November 27, 2012 at 7:52 pm #

Hi there, I personally wouldn’t go for that brand as your body is already curvier than the corset itself! Those corsets are only 6″ larger in the hips compared to the waist, so you may find that it pinches your hips.

  21. FL4fun December 6, 2012 at 4:07 pm #

Thanks for all of the great information! Do you have any suggestions on how long to continue to waist train in a corset once you are able to close the back completely? Do you move to a smaller corset right away or is there a plateau?

    • bishonenrancher December 6, 2012 at 5:12 pm #

Once you can close the back of the corset all the way, you can then order your next corset – usually for custom corsets it’s at least a 3-6 week turnaround time (if not more) so while you’re waiting for your next corset to be made, just stick with your previous corset and wear it for a few weeks closed all the way – by that point it should be fairly comfortable to wear it that way all day. :) Cheers!

  22. FL4fun December 19, 2012 at 3:05 pm #

    Lucy,
All of your suggestions & experience have been invaluable. Thanks for being such a great resource!
In your review of “Waisted Curves” the description mentions that you are wearing a summertime corset from Contour Corsets. Could you please, please review that corset for us?

  23. lupita8 January 25, 2013 at 3:01 pm #

I’ve just purchased my first corset through Lucy and it just arrived. That was fast! I can’t wait to try it. :)

  24. Tracy McCarthy March 13, 2013 at 7:54 pm #

    Hi Lucy!

I love your videos. I have learned a lot from them during my own corset training, which I have been doing since early December. Although, ashamedly, I bought a very cheap corset and it fits improperly. A new and proper one is on the way and I’m sooooo excited!! From your videos, I gathered that you took to corseting very well. Which is great because I don’t feel like such an oddball for thinking that I’m the only one who has. >.<

I do have one question for you. Does your family treat you differently when you wear a corset? From my own personal experience, my family has started treating me differently, like I'm going to start the Chinese foot binding or something else damaging and have tried to convince me that corsets are bad for you and so on and so forth. And what advise could you give to someone who is experiencing something similar?

    Love,

    Tracy

P.S. I'm very jealous of your hair. I wish mine was that long.

    • Tracy McCarthy March 13, 2013 at 7:56 pm #

Gah!! What I meant to say was that I’m trying to get my hair that long.

    • bishonenrancher March 13, 2013 at 8:44 pm #

      Hi Tracey,
Thanks for your message! Nope, my family didn’t treat me any differently when I started corseting. I’ve had aunts who cinched their waists when they were younger so the idea wasn’t completely foreign. Actually my mother helped me modify a longline bra into a sort of corset-like garment back when I was in high school to go under a Halloween costume. These days my father helps me tie up the trickier corsets if I can’t seem to get it straight by myself, so they’re quite used to it. :) When they had questions about the possibility of my hurting myself, I assured them that I researched it very carefully before trying it and I answered any questions they had. They’ve also been following my videos from the beginning. :)
